Includes pilot log books, 1929-1958, correspondence sent and received, an examiner's report including a list of applications by air carriers, membership and other certificates, passports, commercial licenses, brochures, and business records for Alaska Air Transport, Inc., Marine Airways, and Alaska Coastal-Ellis Airlines which later became Alaska Coastal Airways; business records include minutes, notices of meetings, articles of incorporation to stockholders, merger dockets and exhibits, memos and correspondence. The collection also includes flight maps, articles on pilots and airplanes, air industry memorabilia, scrapbooks of mostly newspaper clippings, 1930s to 1980s, and items from reunions, testimonials, and an exhibit at the Juneau International Airport.

Lloyd R. Jarman was born in Juneau, Alaska in 1916 and loved airplanes from an early age. He took his first plane ride with R.E. "Bob" Ellis of Alaska Washington Airways and soon went to work for them doing odd jobs around the hangars. Pioneer aviator, Shell Simmons was born Oct. 8, 1908, in Clearwater County, Idaho. Simmons was one of Alaska's pioneer aviators, a "mercy pilot" known for his daring rescues. Shell Simmons was a major contributor to Alaskan commercial aviation. In 1935, he started Alaska Air Transport, a commercial air carrier business which merged with Marine Airways in 1939 to create Alaska Coastal Airlines.
